What Is Coaching?
“Some of the most valuable influence in life comes from people with the awareness and skill to ask the major questions.” -Jim Rohn
Professional Coaches create partnerships by helping you go inside yourself and break through the obstacles that are holding you back from living the life you want. By asking better questions, coaches help you find better answers and achieve goals far beyond anything you ever imagined. A skilled coach knows how to ask you the right question at the right time to help you realize you have the best answer.
One of the best ways to understand what coaching offers is to look at what it is not.
Coaching is not:
· Therapy/Counseling: The purpose of therapy and counseling is to take you from dysfunctional to functional.
Coaches seek to take you from functional to optimal. In the therapist/patient relationship, the therapist has all of the authority. Coaching works as a partnership guided by your goals and aspirations.
· Mentorship: Mentors give advice based on their past experiences. After receiving advice, you are still left to go and figure things out for yourself.
Coaching is much more efficient because it cuts out the middle man and helps you get to the root cause of your issues, sometimes within the first few minutes of a session.
· Family/Friends: Think of a time when you went to family and friends for help. You may have found the comfort you needed, but more often than not you probably found someone looking to solve all your problems.
Coaches are trained to stay objective. By recognizing the uniqueness of every situation, they offer you the freedom to find your own answers.
