McDonalds Visual

I saw a couple friends post this on facebook. Every spot on the map represents a McDonald’s Cancer Center. Ok, they call them “restaurants,” but let’s be honest.

How Will You Look At 84 Years Old?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

bob-delmonteque-at-84

Meet Bob Delmonteque, he’s 84 years old. Yes, you heard me right, 84 years old!

I came across a Correct Weight Loss Blog post about him over the weekend and I was shocked. I’m only 29 years old and I don’t even come close to this guy! Some people would try and discount his appearance to genetics, but it’s clear that above anything else, his philosophy on life is the main reason he’s stayed in such great condition.

“I actually am growing younger as I’m getting older. And this starts with the mindset, because you can do anything you want to do in life if you want it bad enough. There’s nothing you cannot accomplish. So for any of you seniors, I know it’s never too late to get going. All you need is the goal and the impossible dream. You need a plan, you have to organize yourself and you’ve got to work at it. There has to be a spiritual side of you. You have to so intensely believe that you can do it and that is the secret to making it happen. Because you must persist until you succeed. You can never give up.”

LA Daily News – “Soda makes you fat”

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

diet-soda

The UCLA Center for Health Policy Research just released a study looking at the link between soda consumption and obesity. To say that some of the statistics are shocking would be an understatement.

“(Research) found that adults who drink at least one soda or sugar-sweetened energy drink a day are 27 percent more likely to be overweight or obese. For children, the risk of obesity soars 60 percent with each daily serving of soda or sugary beverage.”

Wow! 60 percent more likely to be overweight or obese from at least one soda per day!? The affects sugar addiction can have on children is staggering. Executive director Harold Goldstein states, “We are drinking soda like it’s water, but it’s not. It’s water packed with 17 teaspoons of sugar. Our kids are drinking bottles of sugar.”

“Obesity could become top cancer cause”

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Big Woman

The Associated Press has reported that obesity is quickly catching up to smoking as a top preventable cause of cancer.

“‘Obesity is catching up at a rate that makes it possible it could become the biggest attributable cause of cancer in women within the next decade,’ said Andrew Renehan, a cancer expert at the University of Manchester.” The article goes on to state, “Scientists aren’t sure why being fat boosts your cancer risk, but suspect it is connected to hormones.”

I am certainly no scientist, but here is my hypothesis. If you are obese, you are no doubt a sugar addict who is consuming massive amounts of sugar. Since you eat a lot of sugar, your glucose (blood sugar) levels are constantly spiking and dropping. Your roller coaster blood sugar levels only make you gain more weight because the excess glucose that is not used right away for energy is stored as fat for later use. The excessive weight you gain brings about inflammation at the cellular level and the door is opened for cancer to take hold.

Google CEO – “You Need A Coach”

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Eric Schmidt is the CEO of one of the most successful companies in American history, why would he need a coach? He says it best, “The one thing people are never good at is seeing themselves as others see them.” Therefore, he relies on his coach to give him perspective and challenge his decisions and actions.

Tiger Woods uses a coach for the same reason. Even though he can swing a golf club better than anyone in the world, he knows only a qualified coach can help him improve that swing.

Therefore, I have to ask, where do you need change in your life? Are you dealing with a sugar addiction? Do you have a negative self concept? Would you like to have better relationships? Are you looking to make a career change? If possibly the wealthiest athlete ever and the CEO of one of the best companies in the world know they need coaches to accomplish anything, how can you be any different?

ABQ: Always Be Questioning!

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Shiny Microphone

In the sales movie classic Glengary Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin plays the roll of the hard nosed sales motivator who is brought in to scare a sales force into action. In arguably one of the best scenes in movie history, Baldwin declares, “A: Always, B: Be, C: Closing. Always be closing! Always be closing!”

While this tactic may have worked in pre-historic sales days, potential clients are much more savvy today. Now, as Jeffrey Gitomer points out, it’s all about discovering your client’s reasons to buy. This is a fundamental shift in paradigm because it’s a model based on service, not just taking money from everyone who walks in the door because you need to make a sale.

I know what you’re thinking; James, this blog is about sugar addiction, what’s with all the sales talk?

Well, in addition to being a coach, I am also a Professional Speaker who spends a fair amount of time marketing my services. If you’re in sales, know somebody who’s in sales, or just want to celebrate with me because I got another article published, check me out in the September newsletter for the Michigan chapter of the National Speakers Association!

Help Wendy’s Fight Diabetes, Eat More Frostys!!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

fail-owned-wendys-fail

Every once in a while you find a news story that is so absurd you think it must be a joke; here is one of the best I’ve seen for quite some time.

Piscese Foods, the owners of 31 Wendy’s franchises in Austin, Texas raised over $72,000 for the Austin chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. While that is an incredibly notable cause, especially since type 1 diabetes is an incurable disease that can be a major obstacle in a person’s life, you won’t believe how they raised the money.

“2009’s donation was raised through a one-month promotion beginning in mid-July in which customers at participating Austin area Wendy’s restaurants could purchase a Frosty Coupon Book for $1.00. Each book included four (4) coupons, good for either a Free Small Frosty and Frosty-Cino. Customers have been very excited about the value of the Frosty Coupon Book, where for only $1.00 they receive four (4) free Frosty’s.”
