One Year & Counting!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I’d like to take a moment to congratulate and celebrate with my brother Joey Hahn. One year ago today, he weighed 315 lbs. and now he is one of the healthiest people I know having lost and kept off a total of 126 lbs. “Living The Life” I taught him.

In case you’ve never clicked on the “Success Stories” above, here is his before picture.

new-joey-photo-shoppedAnd here is his after.

Joey grew up to become the biggest kid in the family, earning him the nickname “Joe Beef.” His story is enough to give hope to anyone. He is proof that regardless of your experience until today, it is possible to reach your ideal weight. No matter how discouraged you might be, it’s not your “body type” to be overweight. You were created to enjoy life and your happiness is eminently achievable as long as you decide to make it happen.

One year ago today Joey Hahn made his move and he is still reaping the benefits of that decision. CONGRATS BROTHER!!!

Wow!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

The Success Symposium has truly been an amazing experience! I honestly felt like I got my money’s worth by 8:15 a.m. when I was walking out of the VIP breakfast having met and gotten pictures with Stedman Graham, John Maxwell, Darren Hardy, and John Flemming.

In addition to that, I’ve got at least two or three weeks worth of blog posts in my notes. However, I’m only on a quick break until the Success Foundation dinner starts in about an hour, so I’ve got to run.

In the mean time, here’s one of my favorite notes from the day.

“The foundation of freedom is your passion.” -Stedman Graham

Twitter Time!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

I’m in Dallas, Texas for Success Magazine’s Success Symposium this weekend, so my blog posts will probably look more like Twitter tweets. The good news is, there is so much positive motivation going on down here, I’m going to come home floating on a cloud having stolen all of the best lines from the nation’s top speakers. So, look forward to some great posts next week.

In the mean time, I offer you this quote from St. Catherine of Sienna, “If you are what you should be you will set the whole world on fire.”

Let’s GO!!

Interpreting The True Test

Friday, March 27th, 2009

“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28

There will inevitably come a moment in your life when your faith will be put on trial. Everything you said you believed in will be challenged and thrown into question and it’s up to you to decide how you will react in that moment.

That is exactly what happened to me when I came home just over an hour ago and found my laptop had been stolen.

Yes, I am blogging about this an hour after the incident, but I am writing this post on my work computer; the work computer I will hand in Tuesday the 31st when I leave my job to go into full time self employed Sugar Addiction coaching and speaking. That’s right, I am five days away from going to work for myself full time and my Apple PowerBook that contained 7 years worth of pictures, music, memories, writing, and audio software was stolen.

This is the moment of truth when we see if I really believe everything I’ve written on this blog. I now have two paths before me, two interpretations to choose between.

First, I could cry. Who wouldn’t want to right now? Then I could pick up the phone and call every person in my address book and lament the great tragedy that has been thrust upon me. After that, I could sit back and sulk and begin to think, “Maybe this is a sign. Maybe, I’m just not supposed to go it alone. Maybe my dreams are just fantasies & fairytales. Maybe I should just give up before I make a fool of myself. I don’t have the money to buy another PowerBoook right now and I know I can’t afford another payment, seeing as how I’m leaving my cushy corporate salary Tuesday. That’s it, I should just call my boss right now and beg for my job back, I know he’ll let me stay on.”

That is one option.

Then there is the correct option. I can also say, Wow! Praise God! Praise God for the opportunity to detach from worldly goods. Praise God because that computer was 8 years old and I needed a new one anyways. Praise God for this cross at this very moment as I begin this new chapter in my life. How much sweeter the victory will be because of the glory of this cross!

Victor Frankl was a renowned psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor who passed away in 1997. In his classic work A Man’s Search For Meaning he wrote,  “We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults takes this one step further and states, “Human freedom is more than a capacity to choose between this and that. It is the God-given power to become who he created us to be and so to share eternal union with him.”

So, the next time you’re faced with the test, exercise your freedom and know the suffering of your momentary cross is nothing compared to the glory that will result from your steadfast faith.

Liberate Your Life!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

As a Wellness Coach and Sugar Addiction Expert, typically the people I work with are constantly overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety and inadequacy. They feel they will forever be in a losing battle with themselves and their bathroom scale. They are frustrated because they know what it takes to live the life they want, but can’t seem to find the motivation to make it happen.

Therefore, just when things seem to be beyond help, they turn to me and find hope to fight another day.

Most of my clients are looking to change their lives and become the person they know they were created to be. By using a unique approach called Freedom Fulfillment, my clients and I partner together and discover the default tendencies, beliefs, and perceptions that they have adopted over the years. This helps them become conscious of how these default tendencies have guided their decisions and actions and driven them to success or lack thereof. Using the Freedom Fulfillment Development System, my clients are able to recreate their ideal image of themselves by following 7 Simple Steps as they reemerge as a healthy, energetic, and immensely satisfied person. To get started, I’ve reduced the cost of my initial Liberate Your Life! Coaching Session from $75 to $FREE.99!

If you’re interested in seeing if the power of coaching is right for you, just click on the “Email Me” button to the right, write me at jameshahn [at] slave2freedom [dot] com, or call me anytime at 517-712-1164.

The Power of Persistence

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” -Winston Churchill

Cal Ripken, Jr is a living legend. In his 20 year career, Ripken set the standard for excellence in Major League Baseball. Though he is most known for holding the record for consecutive games played, 2,632, his other numbers aren’t too shabby either. He played 3001 total games and had 1,647 runs, 1,695 RBI’s, 1,078 extra base hits, 603 doubles, 433 home runs, and 1,682 double plays.

However, even though he is regarded as the “Iron Man” and known for greatness, had he stopped after his rookie minor league season, he would have gone down in history for another much less prestigious record. In 1978, playing shortstop for the Bluefield Orioles in Bluefield, West Virginia, Ripken led the league with 33 errors. Yet, that is not what he is remembered for. In fact, most people probably don’t even know that about him.

Why?

Because when faced with difficulty, he pressed on, put in overtime, and did the hard work necessary to succeed. His determination did not go unnoticed either. Upon being called up for the Big Show in 1982, Ripken earned American League Rookie of the Year and followed that up with American League Most Valuable Player in 1983.

So how did Ripken go from a league leading error committing shortstop to Rookie of the Year and eventually MVP? Persistance. As Dale Carnegie once said, “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”

So, whether you’re combatting a Sugar Addiction, looking for a job, or simply looking for peace, keep at it because the bridge between a temporary setback and success is persistence.

Dare To Dream Again

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.” —Teddy Roosevelt

I recently had a cordial exchange with a friend on facebook about his status. He made the point that dreams are nothing without execution and I countered that the world and the future belong to the dreamers; those who are daring enough to think BIG. Ultimately, we were arguing two sides of the same coin. Big accomplishments come from big dreams and are made real through unwavering execution.

Today’s submission, though, is about dreams. Once again, our friend Chris Widener came through. He starts with the fantastic quote listed above and goes on to make several great points, my favorite being, “How will your children remember you? As one who sought all that life had to offer, using your gifts and talents to their fullest extent, leading the family with a zest for life or as an overweight couch potato who could have been? Our children need to see that we dream; that we search for something better. They in turn will do the same!”

Again, Chris’s newsletter is top notch and I highly recommend you subscribe. In the mean time, here’s the rest of the article, enjoy!

Fueling Sugar Addiction, One Advertisement at a Time

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The New York Times has reported that the masters of food marketing are back at it again. Noticing a growing distaste for anything made with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), they have decided to start using actual sugar and selling their products under deceptive titles like “natural” and “retro.”

I’m not sure where to start here. I understand the need for marketers to sell their products, but there is no room in the market place for blatant lies.

There is nothing “natural” about refined sugar. The process to create it is quite extensive and involves plenty of industrial machining and chemical crafting.

First, sucrose is extracted from sugar cane and sugar beets by heating them with a chemical compound known as Calcium Oxide. This creates a juice which is evaporated into 65% solids and becomes raw sugar. After that, the crystals are washed and stripped of color in beds of a carbon granule made from animal bones known as “bone char.” This produces a liquor, which is either partially evaporated into liquid sugar or dried to become the sugar you see in the store.

However, to argue which is better for you, HFCS or sugar, makes as much sense as arguing which will kill you faster, smoking cigarettes or smoking a pipe. Both are equally harmful as they both cause a spike in blood sugar, triggering an overdose of insulin, and resulting in excessive fat storage in your liver and other muscle tissue.

If you’d like a guaranteed prevention for diabetes Sugar Addiction, leave both HFCS and sugar out of your food completely.
